Introduction

Communication skills have become a key success factor for health care professionals in the internet era. All HCPs need the skills to:

  • Counter the myths and misconceptions that proliferate through social media. Vaccine hesitancy is a prime example of misinformation.
  • Build a therapeutic relationship with patients. Patients need to become partners in their therapeutic journey.
  • Stay out of court. Poor communication between clinicians and patients is an important attributing factor contributing to lawsuits (Ranjan, 2015).
