Introduction

Since Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin in 1928 and its introduction to combat infections in a clinical setting in 1941, antibiotics or antimicrobials have played a vital role in the treatment and prevention of infections, allowing the body’s own immune system to overcome the invasion of overwhelming colonies of bacteria.
