Qualification Application Process

Applicants are required to follow these easy steps on their path to enrolment.

Step 1: Apply for enrolment

You will be required to complete and submit an application form for enrolment, together with supporting documents, please note there is a non-refundable R 350.00 application fee. Please note that by signing the application form and submitting the supporting documents you indicate that you understand that, should your qualification(s) be found to be misrepresented or from a degree mill, then your name will be included in the Register of Misrepresented Qualifications and Providers operating outside of the South African NQF (RMQP). You will also not receive the qualification.

The following supporting documents need to be submitted:

  • Certified copies of qualification/s (including academic record).
  • Certified copy of RSA Identification document or passport.
  • Proof of payment of the application fee.

Once you have submitted your application, along with all supporting documentation, you will receive correspondence from FPD regarding the outcome of your application.

Step 2: Apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) / Credit Accumulation & Transfer (CAT)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you do not meet the entry requirements that are listed for the specific qualification and may want to apply for RPL based on the work you have done in an applicable context and/or you have gained knowledge as a result of learning in the workplace and in other settings. If this applies to you, you can apply for RPL by providing testimonials/reference letter from previous or current employers. The testimonials/reference letter must include the number of years worked and your responsibilities/duties. 

Credit Accumulation & Transfer (CAT)

Students who have previously successfully completed relevant modules, courses or programmes at FPD or another institution and who wish to have such modules, courses or programmes recognised by FPD should apply for CAT. 

The following supporting documentation is required to be submitted:

·        Academic record, provided by the institution where the studies was completed, that provides proof of successfully completing the modules for which CAT is being requested for.

·        Description of the learning outcomes and assessments linked to the previously completed module e.g. the study guide for the module and/or course where this module was completed.

The maximum CAT allowance is 50% of the total credits of the qualification being applied for.

You will receive correspondence from FPD regarding the outcome.

  

Step 3: Registration and Payment

Successful applicants will also receive an quote from FPD, in order to make payment. A 10% non-refundable registration fee is required upfront. As a student you have the option of paying the remainder of the fees at the start of each quarter or alternatively you may also pay for the entire qualification in advance.

Once proof of payment has been received, you will receive an acknowledgement letter with a link for you to register on the FPD Student Portal.

Qualification Selection Process

1.     Applications for a qualification and RPL/CAT together with the supporting documents listed below are collected by the lead conversion team:

Application:

·         Certified copies of qualification/s (including academic record).

·         Certified copy of RSA Identification document or passport.

·         Proof of payment of the application fee.

RPL:

·         testimonials/reference letter from previous or current employers

CAT:

·         Academic record, provided by the institution where the studies was completed, that provides proof of successfully completing the modules for which CAT is being requested for.

·         Description of the learning outcomes and assessments linked to the previously completed module e.g. the study guide for the module and/or course where this module was completed.

 

2.     These are captured on a tracking tool and sent to the relevant administrator and coordinator in the Student Administration and Engagement Unit (SAE)

3.     The application documents are compiled after the application closing date and put into a folder on the share drive by the SAE Unit administrator. The administrator needs to ensure that all the necessary documents are available and the application fee is paid. This is checked by the Coordinator and listed on the Formal Qualification Selection spreadsheet with information on whether the applicants meet the admission criteria. This is shared with the Head of School/Project Manager and they are informed on email that the application pack in ready for a qualification intake.

4.     The Head of School/Project Manager reviews to Selection spreadsheet, ensures all the necessary information is available and clear or requests outstanding information for the SAE Coordinator.

5.     The Head of School/Project Manager convenes a Selection Committee meeting (should include school rep, faculty and Registrar/Head of EID). Outcome from the Selection Committee meeting is captured on the Formal Qualification Selection spreadsheet.

6.     The Head of School/Project Manager send the completed Formal Qualification Selection spreadsheet to the SAE coordinator and confirms who has been granted admission and/or RPL or CAT.

7.     The SAE administrator generates the successful/unsuccessful letter. The SAE Coordinator check this and the Registrar signs of the letter. The SAE administrator send the successful/unsuccessful letter to the applicants via email.
