This course is about developing basic research skills to conduct qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods research and to develop your academic writing skills. You will learn how to clearly define a research problem and how to formulate research questions. You will also define and describe various research paradigms and research designs. Various sampling techniques, data collection methods and tools, data analysis methods and quality assurance techniques will be investigated. Furthermore, this course covers ethical principles in research. In the end, you will be guided to design a research proposal for your intended research.

Participants have 8 weeks to complete the assessment process from date of registration.
You will have several assessment opportunities, which include posts to the discussion forum, assignments and quizzes, among others. You will have various learning activities to engage with and tasks to complete. In the end, these tasks will help you to design your research proposal which will be submitted as the final summative assessment.
Accredited with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) for 4 Credits.
Accredited according to the HPCSA Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals for 30 Ethical CEU's on Level 2.
To qualify for the certificate of completion for this short course, participants should complete all learning activities online and successfully complete the assessment process.
