As a healthcare manager or someone aspiring to this position, you are often expected to manage with very little resources in situations where the outcome could be life or death. However, there are few opportunities in healthcare professional training to develop the business skills you need to make these quick and impactful decisions. We at FPD are committed to professionalising healthcare management because we understand the weight on the shoulders of a healthcare manager and the impact you make on the system and the health of the population.

This qualification has been designed especially for healthcare managers who want to obtain the practical business skills to lead and progress on their leadership path.

The exit learning outcome of the AdvCert (Health Management) is to enable participants to apply management principles on a strategic level in organisations within the healthcare environment to optimise health in Africa.

Course Design

The programme consists of the following learning components: 

  • Distance e-learning (self-study) modules,
  • Eleven (11) Assisted virtual tutorial sessions, and
  • Various assessment tasks.

Course Duration

Participants are required to complete this programme within a year.

Learning Outcomes

On achieving this qualification, a learner will be able to:

  • Apply fundamental management principles in a work-based context.
  • Apply quantitative methodologies in making work-based decisions.
  • Utilise technology to communicate effectively.

  • Interpret financial statements and develop a budget.

Assessment

The programme includes the following assessment opportunities:

  • Ten (10) formative assessment test - self-study multiple choice question (MCQs) assessments.
  • Ten (10) summative modular assessments (individual assignments) in form of work-related assignments.
  • Summative exam component 1 - one (1) action research proposal that will guide the project you need to implement over the duration of your studies. 
  • Summative exam component 2 – one (1) Portfolio of Evidence (POE) you will complete to demonstrate how you have implemented your action research project 

Certification

Successful participants will receive an Advanced Certificate in Health Management.
