Introduction

Understanding the business environment is critical to the success of any business. It is important therefore, for Healthcare managers to gain the business knowledge that will inform strategic management decision-making within their individual practice. This qualification has been designed for healthcare managers who do not have the time to do an MBA. The exit learning outcome of the AdvCert (Health Management) is to enable participants to apply management principels on a strategic level in organisations within the healthcare environment to optimise health in SA.

Distance education through comprehensive study manuals developed by experts in the field and one interactive workshop per module, based on participatory learning methods suitable for adult learners.

Learning Outcomes

On achieving this qualification, a learner will be able to:

  • Apply fundamental management principles in a work-based context.
  • Apply quantitative methodologies in making work-based decisions.
  • Utilise technology to communicate effectively.
  • Conduct action research.

  • Interpret financial statements and develop a budget.

Assessment

Students will be assessed by means of both formative and summative assessments. With a minimum of one written assignment per module and one overarching Portfolio of Evidence based on the Action Research Methodology.

Accreditation

The AdvCert (Health Management) is a formally registered and accredited qualification, registered on the NQF as a level 6 qualification for 120 Credits.
